I am certainly no fan of Rupert Murdoch or any of the British tabloids for that matter.
But when I think of "hacking" I envision someone(s) spending hours, in the dark, hunched over a computer, attempting through trial and error to "break in." If reporters call a cell phone and use the default passcode to get to messages, how is that hacking? And why don't cell phone owners take some responsibility here? I can't imagine anyone NOT changing it. No excuse for celebrities. Don't they pay people to take care of this kind of thing?
I know we're all up on our high horses - and I'd love to debate the ethics of it - but seriously, if I had a reporter tell me they hadn't read someone's letter when it was left open in front of them, I'd yell at them for it. The technology has changed. More on this soon...
